Apple iPhone 5 to Have LTE Technology?

The new iPhone rumor is suggesting that the Cupertino, California-based Apple won?t be releasing the fifth generation iPhone ? the iPhone - 5 at WWDC in June. Tech site TechCrunch is reporting that iOS 5 released will be pushed back to the fall, and the company will not announce the iPhone 5 this summer.
It is widely speculated that the new LTE technology affecting the company?s decision in releasing the iPhone 5.

?TechCrunch contributor Steve Cheney (who nailed the timing of the Verizon iPhone last year), believes that a fall iPhone 5 launch makes LTE much more likely. He currently puts the odds at zero to ten percent for LTE if the iPhone 5 launched this summer (again, not happening), 50 percent if it comes in the fall, and 100 percent if it comes in January.

A fall timeframe would give Apple a more vetted and lower power Qualcomm chip for LTE, Cheney says. When the Verizon iPhone was unveiled in January, Apple COO Tim Cook addressed the LTE issue directly. ?The first generation LTE chipsets force some design compromises. Some of which we would not make,? he said. If Cheney is right, that may not be such an issue later this year.

On the other hand, it?s tough rival, Google?s Android-based smartphone will be geared with the new LTE technology and it is all set to storm the market this Fall. And for Apple, the iPhone that has a capability to operate on LTE technology is the best way to compete against its fierce competitor. As we all know, the iPhone maker does not adopt a new technology until it is proven to be stable. If you remember, apple introduces the first ever iPhone using EDGE technology instead of 3G.

SlashGear backed TechCrunch on its speculation:

?That later date might allow for the inclusion of 4G LTE connectivity, in an attempt to better take on what?s expected to be a growing number of LTE-equipped Android devices.
A Q4 2011 iPhone 5 release might allow Apple more flexibility in including LTE functionality, with Qualcomm?s newer-generation 4G chipsets available by that point. Apple claimed that the compromises inherent in first-gen LTE radios led them to bypass the technology in the Verizon iPhone 4; however, Verizon has also been vocal that it was its LTE network that attracted Apple?s attention, and has since said that Apple LTE devices are indeed in the pipeline.?
